The entry cost for this event is $30, but NJTP will cover the cost of a student’s first SSV event for free!

In order to play SSV tournaments, you must have taken the SSV test and gotten an SSV rating of at least 60.

Serve, Stroke & Volley (SSV) Testing

NJTP is proud to bring Serve, Stroke & Volley (SSV) testing to our program!  How good are you?!  Come out and get tested, and then compete against other players at a similar skill level!

The SSV test measures a player’s ability in the 5 basic tennis strokes (forehand/backhand groundstrokes, forehand/backhand volleys, and serve). The test takes about 10-15 minutes, and gives each player a rating that is based only on tennis ability, regardless of age or gender.

Once you have your SSV rating, you can compete with players at a similar skill level at local clubs around the San Fernando Valley.  Come get tested, find out how good you really are, and rank yourself against other tennis players!

Testing will be done Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of the break week, at the following times:

  • Tuesday, May 26th, 4:30pm – 8:30pm – SSV testing for students in Rising Stars, Super Stars, Challengers 3/4, Competitors 5 and Achievers classes.
  • Wednesday, May 27th, 4:30pm – 6:00pm – Continued SSV testing for Challengers 4, Competitors 5 and Achievers students.
  • Wednesday, May 27th, 6:00pm – 7:30pm – Continued SSV testing for Smashers, Future Aces and Rising Stars classes.
  • Friday, May 29th, 5:00pm – 6:30pm – Continued SSV testing for Challengers 3 and Super Stars classes.

Parents’ Meetings

Also during the break week, we will hold parents’ meetings, which all parents are encouraged to attend.  In these meetings, we will discuss a variety of topics related to your child’s tennis development, including:

  • 10-and-under tennis (for novice/beginner level class meetings).
  • How and why to start playing tournaments, what are the different kinds of tournaments, etc.
  • NJTP’s Pathway to Success and how it can enable you and your child to achieve your goals with tennis.
  • How to receive and improve your tennis ranking.
  • NJTP’s “Courts to College” motto and how it can benefit you.

Here is the schedule for the meetings:

  • Wednesday, May 27th, 4:30pm – 6:00pm – Parents’ meeting for Challengers 4, Competitors 5 and Achievers classes.

April 27 (Sunday) – NJTP Fundraiser Bike/Walk/Run With St. Vincent Meals on Wheels

As a nonprofit organization, NJTP relies on donations in order to pay for our coaches, tennis balls, equipment and other costs.

Our once-a-year fundraiser is crucial to our success.  The money we raise helps us offset our costs for the coming year, and allows us to offer discounts to many families who are unable to pay for classes due to the loss of a job, loss of their home or both.

On April 27, 2014, we’re teaming up with St. Vincent Meals on Wheels to take part in their annual Walk/Bike-a-Thon event in Santa Monica.  A portion of your donations will also benefit the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers hot, nutritious meals to home-bound seniors every day.

For each participant who raises $300 or more in donations to NJTP, we will cover your entry fee to the event, and you will receive a 50% discount on your NJTP class fees for one year (for one child or for yourself).  It’s a great deal, and it’s supporting two great causes!

For more information or to sign up, contact Steve Tscherne at (818) 434-9231.
